PACE Scholarship Program
Partnership for Accessing College Education (PACE) is SLCC’s high school-to-college-to-career program serving six public high schools in Salt Lake County. PACE prepares students to advance to higher-paying careers essential for improving lives and sustaining Utah’s economic vitality.
For over 10 years, PACE has increased high school graduation and college participation rates among first-generation students. Since its inception, PACE has served over 900+ high school students, and that impact continues to grow.
Your support of PACE will help lift students by offering a full scholarship to those who thought attending college was just a dream. By donating to the PACE program, you are helping your community through education.
Advocate and PACE Scholar
Growing up in Salt Lake City, Kiana Valdez was actively engaged in her studies and played soccer for Cottonwood High School. “I’ve always valued my education, and school has been an important part of my life,” Kiana said. As her senior year of high school drew to a close, she became even more determined to excel. “Right before I graduated, I found out I was pregnant,” she shared. “My baby girl is my reason for pushing myself to do my best.”
Kiana first learned about the Partnership for Accessing College Education (PACE) scholarship program in high school. “PACE kept me motivated in school, and knowing there is a college scholarship at stake made me stay focused,” said Kiana. “When I found out I had been awarded the PACE scholarship, I was so excited and proud of myself! I felt a sense of accomplishment by earning this scholarship.”
In 2023, Kiana earned an associate’s degree in general studies and is now pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene degree with graduation set for 2026. “I started working as a dental assistant in 2020 and have really enjoyed the field,” said Kiana. “I like helping people learn about dental hygiene and how to take care of their teeth. Earning this degree will significantly impact my career goals that support both me and my daughter, securing our futures.”
Kiana is eagerly anticipating her future and is thankful for those who have donated to SLCC student scholarships. “As a new mom living on my own, I don’t think I could have afforded college without this scholarship,” said Kiana. “I believe scholarships open the door to education and help change lives.”
